First off, I love this bike and will never own a mountain or a street bike again. I'm an athletic yet adimttedly hefty 325lb guy and this bike took all of the abuse I was able to dish out, so I give this bike a 10 on durability without a single issue to mention. I also want to comment about how much faster this bike is. On my previous two mountain bikes I was always pushing to keep up with others, now I have to slow down. On my own I was able to go about 9 miles in 30 minutes with easy and had a 5 minute break halfway through. I have no doubt that one could manage 20 miles an hour average no problem with this bike. The bike does handle really well even off road, but keep in mind that if you're a bigger person as I am that hard narrow tires will dig through soft sand fast. Also, if encounter sand on top of a hard surface under braking you will slide out fast and will need very quick reflexes. My wife tried my bike and has decided that mountain bikes are no longer for her and we are getting her an Ariel (ladies equivalent). The only thing about this bike I wasn't happy with was the front reflector. It would become loose very easily and dangle about. It was gladly fixed at the bike shop on the first tune up.

So I decided to get back into bicycling again, and decided first off that a "Hybrid" style bike would probably be my best bet for the riding I do. I began a rather long online search for a bike in my price range, that soon became rather daunting, with so many brands and models to choose from. I took a couple of test rides on some hybrids at local bike shops, when I came across the Specialized Crosstrail online, and liked what I saw and read about it. I found a shop not far away, that had them in stock, so I went down to check it out in person. During the test ride, I soon realized my search was over. This bike just had certain 'something' that the other bikes I tested didn't have, a certain sporty feel, look, and was very nimble in it's handling. The ride felt sure and solid. Pedaling was very smooth. When riding, the bike is virtually silent, no mechanical noise at all. I was sold, and bought it that day. I use this bike for fitness/recreation, and it fits the bill perfectly. The adjustable front shocks help a lot over way less than perfect paved back roads, dirt trails, and the brakes will stop you on a dime, there's even a warning about the brake strength in the handbook. The only changes I made to the bike are seat, tires, and grips. Looks can be subjective of course, but to me, the Crosstrail is also one of the best looking bikes out there. For right or wrong, it's appearance had a little to do with my decision. I like the non gloss paint scheme, (2010 basic model) and all the blacked out parts that are often chrome on other bikes. If I had to think of any negative, it would probably be thinking it could use one more taller gear. When trying to hit a top speed, I find I'm pedaling so fast, I can't pedal any faster to go faster. At least one more taller gear would be nice. It certainly has all the gears you would want in the lower range, including a "Mega Drive" super low rear sprocket that's bigger than the smallest front chain ring sprocket... that's "Stump puller" low! But I may upgrade the gears in the future. But for anyone looking for a solid, quick, (for a hybrid style bike) nice looking, well made bike that handles real nice, I don't think you'll find much better in this price range, at least I didn't with the bikes I test rode and they were major brand bikes in the same price range. Don't get me wrong, the bikes I tested were nice, and I'm sure worth the money, it's just the Crosstrail had a certain feel/look that sold me, so it's just my personal take on it. I have no regrets in the purchase. Oh, and I've lost about 10 lbs in 5 weeks of riding it. ;?)

I use this bike all the time to exercise, etc. It rides great, and hasn't broken on me yet. Overall a great buy.

The stock pedals broke after the first 400 miles. The replacement pair broke 250 miles later. I have had four flats while riding on roads and mixed-use paths. The Borough XC tires are nothing special. I have broken two spokes on two separate occassions without any significant bumps/accidents. This bike is great when it works, but it hasn't held up very well at all.

I have rode mostly greeneways with this bike and couldn't be much happier. Very smooth and quick. I haven't owned a bike in over 5 years and am now riding 40-50 miles a week on this bad boy. Thanks Andy Jordan's in Augusta, GA!

This bike can handle pratically anything that you throw at it! Sidewalks, roads, pot holes, gravel/ limestone trails, the list can go on. I started riding bulky mountail bikes until I decided to upgrade for a quicker, more road friendly bike. I didn't want to spend a small fortune on a racing bike, this however was the perfect comprimise. I've been riding it for an entire year now and it still feels like new. This bike is definately worth every dollar spent!

This is a great bike. I own on 07 model and love it. I would have to mentions that i don't like the aluminim pedals (solid) with rubber gripping on them; i find that if they get wet, my feet tend to slip off if i decide to stand while peddling; secondly, i did notice a little slip while going around corners on pavement. I do live in winnipeg, MB Canada and we do have very abd road conditions; so it might be the city and not the bike. I am considering purchasing the 2010 model now.

I bought my bike when I was doing bout 30 miles a week, at most. I now log over 50 miles weekly, year round. If you will only be doing some casual riding, then this would be a great bike. My only problem is that I have become a road biker, and this bike works, but I have to work much harder then if I had a road bike. I am still beating my friends with carbon fiber bikes, but the bike is heavy at 30 pounds. My best piece of advice, is to buy more than you think you will need, and you won't be disappointed

I've been riding my Cross Trail for just over a year, mostly as a commuter bike. I have 3 other bikes; this one is my favorite ride. It fits well and rides smoothly. It's not the fastest bike in the fleet, it is the best riding and most comfortable. It was recommended by the guy at the bike shop who said they sell a lot of them. I can see why.

I've owned the Crosstrail almost 90 days,I'm a intermediate type rider,50 to 60 miles a week,and I'm impressed with the acceleration thru the gears,ride mostly paved trails,and the once hard uphill terrian on a lessor quality bike,is no longer a problem.handling is great,very nimble,brakes are excellent you stop quickly and I'm 225lb guy.Front suspension has great dampening when cutting cross fields etc.Releave yourself of pain,and get a specialized Cross trail,the ease of pedaling/handling verus the department store bikes is no contest. Only negative with me is the tire tread design,little slippery on hard surface cornering.
